Women journalists excel at 24th GJA Awards


Mrs Doreen Hammond, the Editor of Junior Graphic Newspaper, a subsidiary of Graphic Communications Group Limited, has been adjudged the 2018 Best Journalist at the 24th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Awards held at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel, Accra.

The event, which climaxed the 70th anniversary celebrations of the GJA is an annual event that recognizes individual and companies that play a significant role in the growth and development of the inky fraternity.

It also crowned JoyNews’ Ms Ina Thalia Quansah as the “Komla Dumor Most Promising Young Journalist of the year 2018.”

Out of 368 entries, these journalists and Media Organisations listed below emerged topmost in their categories spanning various competitive categories, including News Reporting, Sports, Education and Features.

Janet Abena Quainoo (GTV) -Best Rural Reporter (Electronics).

Nana Konadu Agyeman (Daily Graphic) – Best Transport and Road Saftey Reporter (Print).

Moses Dotse Aklorbortu (Graphic Business) – Best Oil and Gas Reporter.

Kabu Nartey (GIJ) – Best Student Journalist.

Samuel A Akapule (Ghanaian Times) – Best Rural Reporter.

The 24th edition of the GJA Awards was on the theme: “Democracy, Freedom and Independence of the Media in Ghana.”

It had Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the special guest of honour.
