The Parliamentary Leadership responds to the 2022 “Agyenkwa Budget”.

Haruna Iddrisu, Minority Leader, claims that the Electronic Levy and other levies outlined in the 2022 Budget would burden Ghanaians who are already burdened by various taxes and a high cost of living.

”The system will not be able to bear the hardship. Literally, the country is hot. Mr Speaker, it is only the Honorable Ken Ofori-Atta who ironically eases burdens, to quote his words that there is no illusion about the sufferings of Ghanaians yet, he is imposing further subsidiaries, imposing a 1.75 momo electronic banking tax”, Mr. Iddrissu stated.

The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensa-Bonsu, stated that the 2022 Budget is not intended for propaganda, but rather to provide Ghanaians with a fresh start following the terrible impacts of COVID-19.

”This nation must develop, Covid 19 or no Covid 19 yet recognizably, Covid 19 has affected considerable emancipation on the economy. And the economy is in distress, business has collapsed, jobs have been lost, lives and days have been lost, and yet, paradoxically, as we go on, the government has put in place not to explain away from our problems but to solve these problems”, according to Majority Leader Osei Kyei- Mensa- Bonsu.
