The Criminal Division of the High Court, headed over by Justice Ruby Aryeetey, will decide today, December 1, 2021, in the appeal case of actress Rosemond Brown, alias Akuapem Poloo.
Akuapem Poloo was sentenced to 90 days in prison for releasing obscene content and harming the dignity and integrity of her seven-year-old kid in a nude photo she uploaded on social media.
Her lawyer criticized the punishment as draconian, and he later challenged it on his client’s behalf. Her attorneys, however, failed to finish steps to ensure her release on time after she was granted bail of GH80,000 with two sureties by the Criminal Division of the High Court.
In a ruling today, the Criminal Division of the court presided over by Justice Ruby Aryeetey upheld the Circuit court decision on grounds that the Circuit court’s decision was not manifestly excessive.
“This court will not interfere and the appeal is therefore dismissed,” Justice Aryee said. The court ordered that in the absence of the convict, Akuapem Poloo’s child should be given to any competent person in the family to take care of.
