Promoting accountability among leaders and ensuring inclusive governance at all levels, Mr FK. Addo, a Social Policy Analyst, has called for an independent body to gauge Members of Parliament (MPs) performance.
He said: “Parliamentarians are not physical development agents.
“NPP delegates have indeed indicated that, should a sitting parliamentarian fully dedicate his/her time to the core duties enacting laws and enforcing the accountability rules in parliament and ‘neglect’ the welfare of party faithful, he/she will lose the seat.”
To this end, Mr Addo, who is also a Communications Specialist has called for an independent body that measures the performance of MPs with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ascertain the true performance of MPs.
“It is becoming clear that the role of the parliamentarian has been dualised into a lawmaker and Physical infrastructure development agent as defined by electorates, ” he said in an interview with Elsie’s Opinari in Accra on Saturday.
Clarifying further, Mr Addo narrated how this fad was becoming a worrying trend since it had the potency of crippling parliament as a law-making and accountability institution adding that; “If delegates will decide on the fate of a parliamentarian based on physical infrastructure development within the constituency, then roles of the MMDCEs will be rendered redundant.”
He further called on the media, Civil Organisations, political parties and government agencies to form an alliance to design a comprehensive sensitization program in changing the narrative.
