Perennial and expensive expenses will not happen in election-year – Ofori-Atta

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has reiterated the government’s commitment not to overspend its election-year budget.

Presenting the 2020 budget statement to parliament today, Mr Ofori-Atta said the government is not going to risk all the macroeconomic gains it has made in the last three years in its bid to win the next elections.

In the 2016 elections, the government despite an ongoing IMF programme overshot its budget deficit target of 4.5 percent to end the year at 9.3 percent.
