The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced December 28, 2019, as the start date of the new Ghana Premier League (GPL) season.
The decision was taken after a meeting between the GFA and the league clubs at the M Plaza Hotel, in Accra.
Discussion on the beginning of the new league campaign as well as matters concerning club licensing was among the agenda for the meeting.
The league was due to begin on December 21 but that date will not be used per the decisions of the meeting.
Concerning the programme of events and activities that were to be done before the start, the understanding is that they would still go ahead to pave the way for the start of the league.
The new GPL season is expected to start at the same time as the Women’s League and the Division One League.
Competitive league football in Ghana has been under a freeze since June 2018 after the airing of the Anas Aremeyaw Anas’s investigative piece dubbed: “Number 12” documentary.
