The Ghana Football Association has relegated premier league side Ashantigold to the third tier of Ghana football for finding the club guilty of match-fixing for the 2022/2023 football season. The former premier league champions were embroiled in match manipulation following their 7-0 win over Inter Allies in the week 34 game against Inter Allies at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuase.
Videos of the match circulated on various social media platforms showed a player of Inter Allies FC scoring two own goals and also showed a jaded attitude of players on the field of play which generated uproar from the football fraternity worldwide.
In a statement published by the Ghana Football Association, at the end of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season, Ashantigold SC shall be demoted to the Division Two League in accordance with Article 6(3)(h) of the GFA Disciplinary Code 2019. b. That a fine of GHc100,000.00 is imposed on Ashantigold SC in accordance with Article 6(1)(c) and Article 6(4) of the GFA Disciplinary Code 2019.
Meanwhile, the president of the club Dr. Kwaku Frimpong has been banned from all football-related activities for 10years, and a fine of GHC100,000. a. The President of Ashantigold SC Dr. Kwaku Frimpong is banned from taking part in any football-related activity for a period of 120 months in accordance with Article 34.5(d)(i) of the Ghana Premier League Regulations 2019. b. That a fine of One hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc100,000) is imposed on Dr. Kwaku Frimpong in accordance with Article 34.5(d)(ii) of the Ghana Premier League Regulations 2019.
